Buying a Last Chance Floor Model in Boca Raton: How to Choose Well
By Hector Morales, Furniture Quality and Practical Buying Specialist at SoBe Furniture
Every week someone walks into our Boca Raton showroom, sits in a chair they have been watching online, and learns it is the last one. That moment can go two ways. The buyer who knows what to check leaves with a premium piece at a Last Chance price and a delivery date on the calendar. The buyer who does not either hesitates and loses it to the next person through the door, or rushes, skips the tape measure, and discovers at a Highland Beach condo elevator that the sectional will not make the turn.
Floor models and final units are not a lesser kind of furniture. They are the last units of premium designs from our showroom floor. What changes is the buying process. There is usually only one of each, every sale is final, and the decision deserves more care, not less.
That matters more in South Florida than almost anywhere. Our homes range from high-rise condos with strict elevator rules, to new construction in Boca Bridges and Lotus, to established homes around Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club with narrow halls and tight turns. Strong sun and humidity also change how you should judge upholstery and finishes. Here is how I walk clients through a Last Chance purchase so it is the right piece the first time.
What Last Chance Means at SoBe Furniture
The Last Chance collection holds floor models and final units. Each listing is limited to stock on hand, and in most cases that means exactly one. On every product page you will see a red LAST CHANCE label that says so plainly: floor model or final units, limited to stock on hand.
Three things set these pieces apart. First, every Last Chance piece is final sale, which means it is not eligible for return or exchange. Second, each listing asks you to call (561) 221-6111 to confirm the piece is still on the floor and to check dimensions before you order. Third, Last Chance prices end in 8, so a figure like $1,288 or $4,888 tells you at a glance which section you are shopping.
Because there is one of each, it is genuinely first come, first served. When a piece sells, it is gone. That is the trade: a premium design at a Last Chance price, in exchange for deciding with confidence.
The Five Rules That Decide a Good Last Chance Buy
Rule 1: Confirm it is still on the floor before you drive
Call (561) 221-6111 before you leave home in Parkland or Weston. A two-minute call saves a wasted trip, and it is what every Last Chance listing asks you to do.
Rule 2: Judge it in person, under real light
A photo cannot show you how white leather reads next to your floor tile, or whether a smoked glass top leans amber or blue in daylight. On the showroom floor you can sit, swivel, recline, open every drawer and walk all the way around the piece. For a final-sale purchase, that inspection is the point.
Rule 3: Measure the path, not just the room
A one-of-a-kind piece has no second size to fall back on. Measure the space it will occupy, then every door, hallway, stair turn and elevator it has to pass through on the way in. I break this down by home type below.
Rule 4: Know the job the piece has to do
The best Last Chance purchases fill a specific gap: the swivel chair that completes a conversation area, the console for the empty wall by the entry, the round table for a breakfast nook. Buying with no place in mind is how a final-sale piece ends up in the garage.
Rule 5: Plan payment and delivery before you commit
Decide whether you want to pay over time, which delivery day works for your building or HOA, and what else the room still needs. Our team offers design help on the floor, so you can finish the room in the same visit and schedule white-glove delivery at the desk before you leave.
How to Judge a Display Piece in Person
Inspecting a floor model is about confirming exactly what you are getting. Here is what I check.
Upholstery and leather
Sit in every seat, not just the end. The Light Gray Fabric Sectional with Chaise ($4,888) is a floor model with deep seats, loose back cushions and the chaise end as shown on the floor, so confirm that the chaise lands on the side your room needs. Look at the fabric near the windows, not only under the overhead lights. On leather, such as the smooth white hide of the White Leather Lounge Chair with Chrome Star Base ($1,188), look closely at the arms and seat front, and be honest about whether a bright white suits your household. In South Florida, pale leather and fabric last best out of direct afternoon sun.
Glass and polished metal
Glass and steel are the easiest materials to judge in person and the hardest to judge online. On the Round Glass Dining Table with Polished Steel Geometric Base ($1,288), crisscrossing angled bars between two rings form an open pedestal that reflects light from every side. Walk around it, sit at it, and see how the base reads through the clear tempered top. It is sold as the table only; the chairs on the floor are there for styling. On any glass top, run your fingertips along the edge, and look at chrome and steel from a few angles for an even finish.
Anything that moves
Test every mechanism. Turn the olive green swivel accent chair ($888) and the light oatmeal swivel club chair ($588) all the way around and feel how smoothly they return. Open each drawer of the matte gray 3-drawer dresser ($788) fully and close it again. On a power reclining sectional, run every seat and every headrest through its full range.
Measuring for One Piece: Condo, New Construction or Established Home
Bring room measurements and phone photos to the showroom, or send photos ahead through our contact page so our team can look before you arrive. Then match your homework to your home.
High-rise condos
In Highland Beach, the towers along A1A in Boca Raton and the high-rises of Fort Lauderdale, the elevator is usually the deciding dimension. Measure the cab interior, including height and the diagonal, plus the elevator door opening and your unit door. Ask your building about elevator reservations and padding rules before you set a delivery date. For large pieces, compare those numbers to the product dimensions on the phone with our team before you order.
New construction
Homes in Boca Bridges and Lotus usually have wide doors and open plans, so the risk flips from fit to scale. A piece that looked generous on our floor can feel small under a high ceiling in a great room. Measure the full seating zone and mark the footprint on the floor at home with painter's tape before you commit.
Established homes
In older homes around Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, watch for tight hallways, interior turns and doorways narrowed by trim. Measure each turn on the delivery path. For long pieces such as the Dark Walnut Media Console with Coral Red Open Shelving ($1,888), a long, low console with a coral red open-shelf center and two closed compartments on a slim black metal base, confirm both the wall length and the route from the front door.
Final Sale, Paying Over Time and Delivery
What final sale means for you
Every Last Chance piece is final sale and not eligible for return or exchange. That is why the five rules matter: confirm availability, inspect in person, measure the path, and only then order. If someone shares the room with you, bring them along. A second opinion on the showroom floor is worth far more than one after delivery.
Paying over time with Affirm
Last Chance pieces can be paid over time with Affirm. It is offered at checkout only when every item in your cart is a Last Chance item, so keep a Last Chance order in its own cart. Each Last Chance product page shows Affirm's own monthly-payment estimate under the price. See the estimate on the product page; terms come from Affirm and depend on approval. For the rest of the collection, ask at the desk about financing.
White-glove delivery
Inside the tri-county area, white-glove delivery is the greater of $120 or 3% of the merchandise total. Outside South Florida, delivery is quoted through a third-party service. Book your date at the desk while you are in the showroom, with your building's delivery rules in hand.
Last Chance Pieces Worth a Look Right Now
These are among the recent additions to the section. Because each is limited to stock on hand, call ahead to check a specific piece before you visit.
For the living room
The Savona Italian Leather Power Reclining Sectional ($7,488) is a corner sectional in ivory Italian leather with four power reclining seats and power adjustable headrests. Panels are matched across the seats and backs, so the long runs look calm. The Cielo Contemporary Modular Sectional ($4,498) takes the opposite approach, with a seamless curvilinear silhouette and deep, plush cushions. The square glass coffee table ($388) pairs a clear tempered top framed in polished steel with a black glass base.
For the entry, dining room and bedroom
The Textured Smoked Glass Console Table with Bronze Column Legs ($1,288) has a rippled smoked glass top and lower shelf on clustered column legs in a dark bronze finish, and the glass catches the light in shades of amber and blue. Its matching textured glass round end table ($288) works beside a sofa or a bed. The matte gray dresser, with long polished chrome pulls on an open chrome base, suits a guest room that has to be ready for season.
