How big is an XL family bed?
An XL family bed is an extra-wide bed made for more than two sleepers. SoBe Furniture makes XL family beds to order in two widths: 120 inches (10 feet), which holds two Queen mattresses side by side, and 152 inches (12 feet 8 inches), which holds two King mattresses side by side. Both are sized for standard 80-inch-long mattresses, so mattresses, sheets and protectors are easy to buy anywhere.

XL family bed vs. Alaskan King
An Alaskan King is 108 x 108 inches, a square that needs a custom mattress. SoBe XL family beds are 120 or 152 inches wide with an 80-inch-long sleeping surface, so they are 12 to 44 inches wider than an Alaskan King and use two off-the-shelf Queen or King mattresses instead of one custom mattress. Wyoming and Texas Kings are longer than a standard King but not much wider; an XL family bed is about width.

If one side of the bed sits against a wall, subtract 30 inches: 12 ft 6 in for the 120 in bed, 15 ft 2 in for the 152 in bed. Beds are delivered in sections and assembled in the room by our white-glove team, so stairs and doorways are rarely the limit. Bring your wall width and ceiling height (the Grand Haven headboard is 95 inches tall) to the showroom and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Which width?
As a rule of thumb, two adults with one or two small children, or a dog, are comfortable at 120 inches (two Queens). Larger families, older kids, or anyone who wants the most room choose 152 inches (two Kings). Bring your wall measurement to the showroom and we will help you decide.

What is an XL family bed?
An XL family bed is an extra-wide, made-to-order bed built for more than two sleepers. SoBe Furniture makes XL family beds in two widths: 120 inches (10 ft), which fits two Queen mattresses (60 x 80 in each) side by side, and 152 inches (12 ft 8 in), which fits two King mattresses (76 x 80 in each) side by side. Both are wider than an Alaskan King (108 x 108 in) and roughly 1.6 to 2 times the width of a standard King (76 x 80 in). Every bed is made to order in your choice of over 30 leather, PU and fabric coverings, chosen in person at the Boca Raton showroom.

Fully custom designs are quoted after a showroom consultation. A 50% deposit starts production and the balance is due before white-glove delivery.
What mattresses fit an XL family bed?
Two standard mattresses side by side: two Queen mattresses (60 x 80 in each) for the 120-inch bed, or two King mattresses (76 x 80 in each) for the 152-inch bed. Because these are standard sizes, mattresses, sheets and protectors are easy to buy anywhere. SoBe Furniture makes the bed frame; mattresses are purchased separately.
Is an XL family bed the same as an Alaskan King?
No. An Alaskan King is 108 x 108 inches and needs a custom mattress. SoBe XL family beds are 120 or 152 inches wide, with an 80-inch-long sleeping surface made up of two regular Queen or King mattresses, so they are 12 to 44 inches wider than an Alaskan King and much easier to dress.
Will an XL family bed fit in my bedroom?
A 120-inch bed is 10 feet wide and a 152-inch bed is 12 feet 8 inches wide. Allow about 30 inches of walking clearance on each side, so plan on a wall at least 15 feet wide for the 120-inch bed and about 17 feet 8 inches for the 152-inch bed; if one side sits against a wall, subtract 30 inches (12 feet 6 inches and 15 feet 2 inches). Beds are delivered in sections and assembled in your room by our installers, so doorways and stairs are rarely the limit. Bring your room measurements to the showroom and we will confirm the fit before you order.
How long does a made-to-order XL family bed take?
Standard production and delivery is about 10 to 14 weeks from your deposit. Expedited production of 4 to 6 weeks is available on select models; ask in the showroom which models qualify.
