Spark Cone Table Lamp
Description
The Spark Cone Table Lamp sets a mocha aluminum cap, with a solar panel in it, on a solid travertine stone base. The stone gives it a quarried, natural texture and keeps it planted, while the aluminum cap keeps the silhouette clean and quiet. It reads as a small sculptural object first and a light source second.
There are four versions to choose from: the Cone, with its small cone top, and the Small, Large and X-Large, which take a round top. The Small and the Cone sit low enough for a dining table, a side table or a ledge beside a lounge chair. The Large holds its own on a console or an outdoor bar, and the X-Large stands tall enough to anchor a corner of a covered terrace or mark the end of a seating group. Mixing two or three heights along one terrace gives you pools of light at different levels instead of one flat wash.
Aluminum does not rust, which matters when you are living near salt air, and travertine is a natural stone that weathers on its own terms outdoors. A solar panel only takes a charge in daylight, so give the lamp a spot that catches sun during the day even if you only light it after dark. The Cone, Small and Large are the sizes you can pick up and carry under cover when an afternoon storm rolls through; the X-Large is several times heavier and is better placed where it can stay.
