Sunset Coffee Table

The Sunset Coffee Table is a low, long outdoor coffee table on a mocha aluminum frame, with a teak tray fixed into the top so the surface you set a glass on is solid wood rather than glass or stone. It belongs to Pebl's Sunset range, home to the Sunset lounger, which reclines at both ends, converts into a sofa and won Les Grands Prix du Design Platinum in 2024. Like the rest of the range, it was designed in Belgium by Pebl's design team led by creative director Robin Delaere, and Pebl says it has won more than 55 international design awards.

The teak warms the dark frame and keeps the piece from reading as heavy, and the relaxed proportions are those of a table meant for a lounge group rather than a dining area. At 33 inches deep and 19 inches wide, it fits in front of a sofa or between two lounge chairs without taking over a terrace or a balcony, and at 14 inches high it sits below seat level, the right height to reach from a deep cushion. Along with the fixed teak tray, the table comes with a small bottle cooler and a large teak tray, so drinks and glasses have a place during the evening and an easy way back inside at the end of it. Mocha is the finish it is offered in, and it holds up well next to both light and dark upholstery.

Aluminum does not rust, which is the main thing to ask of a frame that lives near salt air in South Florida. The teak goes on its own schedule: left alone in full sun it weathers to a soft silver grey, and oiled once or twice a year it keeps its warmer honey tone. Either way, an afternoon storm is not a problem, and a rinse and a dry cloth handle most of what the season puts on it.
